Laura Flessner never dreamed of being a business owner.

It was November of 2020, and the Covid Pandemic was well under way. She'd been working for Pfizer for over 10 years, yet now a Joint Venture restructuring eliminated her role. Which was a bummer, because it was her most favorite role in her 15+ year career.

But sometimes you need an extra push to step outside of the box.

Instead of looking for another role... Laura saw this as an opportunity to do something she never before considered. To start her own business.

But what should she build? An agency based on her skills of Consumer Insights? A consultancy for Corporate Innovation? Those things would make sense, given her background. And Laura knew these were valuable capabilities! But they didn't speak to her heart.

So she searched within herself. And asked the question... What kind of support do I wish I had, through my career?

And Mindtap was born.

Why Neuroscience?

The human brain is still the single most important driver in both Leadership & Innovation. Understanding how the brain works can magnify your impact.

Without even realizing it, I was once limited to thinking I needed to be on the “Leadership Team” to make any real impact in my company. My goal was to get there as fast as I could.

But then, 10 years into my career, I stumbled upon an idea. An idea I had a whole lot of passion behind. And through lots of trial and error over 5 years it took me to “make it real” – I learned that anyone, at any level, could lead.

I don’t want anyone to have to wait 15 years or longer to lead, when they can do it now. This is what Mindtap is all about. Empowering leadership within anyone who wants to make a difference, no matter your level, experience or role.

I'd been in corporate innovation for over 17 years, across various roles - engineer, product design, insights & founder. I’ve worked for top Global Consumer Product Goods (CPG) and Pharma companies, such as Procter & Gamble, Pfizer & GSK.

I've brought those innovation skills to diversity and inclusion programs, non-profits, and my church. I've found that innovation can be applied in just about any context, in any job role, and adds value every time.

Now I coach and train to live out my purpose: to empower diverse leaders, so they can help make this world a better place.
